Planting Workshops
The aim of the HydroHarvest Workshop Series is to teach the community about ways to tackle food insecurity through sustainable agriculture. In doing so, we equip them with the knowledge and resources necessary to feed themselves and their families nourishing foods. Our workshops can be held in two, 30 minute sessions or one, hour-long session. We host our workshops at schools, clubs, food banks and other programs throughout Greater Washington.
Our workshops can be hosted for all ages - younger youth will learn about nutrition and sustainable agriculture, while teens and adults will learn about the science behind hydroponics and combating food insecurity.
Workshop Structure
Workshop 1: Introduction to Food Insecurity, Nutrition, & Sustainable Agriculture (30 minutes)
In our first workshop, we teach youth about food insecurity, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture, a method of growing food that addresses the health of the environment and the community. The material will be presented in an engaging manner through an interactive slideshow presentation and educational games, such as Kahoot.

In our second workshop, we engage youth in a hands-on planting activity. We provide all materials needed (soil, seeds, gloves) and guide youth through the process of planting lettuce and herb seeds. At the end of the workshop, youth can choose to continue to care for the seedlings until they reach maturity (~2 weeks).
